Godin could be off in the summer for free
The 32-year-old was close to joining the Red Devils in the summer, but former boss Jose Mourinho was left furious as the Atletico captain pulled out of the deal at the last minute.Mourinho accused the Uruguay international of using the club’s interest as leverage in order to facilitate a new deal. However, a new deal has not materialised and Godin’s future is still unclear.According to Marca, the lack of an offer has vexed the centre half who is considering leaving the club. The report claims Godin wants one ‘final blockbuster contract’, but salary restrictions in the Spanish capital means he may have to look elsewhere. With his deal set to expire in the summer, he is free to talk to clubs in Europe about signing with them for free.Godinhas played 364 matches for Atletico, helping them win the Copa del Rey in 2013 and La Liga in 2014 as well as leading them to Champions League Finals in 2014 and 2016.
