The Football Association are investigating racism and bullying allegations against former Newcastle coach Peter Beardsley.The 58-year-old left his role as Newcastle Under-23s boss last week after spending more than a year on leave while the club launched an investigation into the accusations.1

The former England, Newcastle, Liverpool and Everton forward faced multiple complaints during his time on Tyneside, including a bullying claim by ex-academy player Yasin Ben El-Mhanni in January 2018.An FA spokesman told BBC Sport: “We can confirm that the FA is investigating the allegations made against Peter Beardsley during his time at Newcastle United.”

Beardsley has categorically denied the claims.Confirming his departure from St James Park, a Newcastle statement said: “Newcastle United can confirm that Peter Beardsley is no longer employed by the club. We are grateful for the contribution Peter has given over the years as a player, coach and ambassador and we wish him well for the future.The club will make no further comment at this time.Beardsley is Newcastles sixth all-time top scorer with 119 goals in 326 appearances. He won 59 caps for England and represented the Three Lions at two World Cups (1986 and 1990).He retired from playing in 1999 and joined Newcastle’s coaching staff shortly after and was subject of a Premier League inquiry after allegations of bullying in 2003, similar to the ones faced recently.
