James Milner gave Liverpool hope when he struck a penalty in first-half stoppage time, but it was not enough meaning Jurgen Klopp’s side have it all to do.See talkSPORT.com’s player ratings from the match below…

Alisson 6

A couple of great early saves kept Liverpool in the match as PSG dominated. Left flat-footed for the first goal and made a brave initial save for the second, but could do little about the follow up.

Joe Gomez 5

Poor performance, struggled to deal with the pace of the PSG attack and both goals in the first half came down his side. Booked for a shirt pull on Neymar.Joe Gomez struggled to deal with Neymar and co4

Dejan Lovren 5

Caught out on the halfway line for the second goal and another player who struggled to cope with the relentless pace of the PSG front three.

Virgil van Dijk 6

Usually the coolest player on the pitch, the Dutchman seemed ruffled in the early stages as Liverpool were continuously put under pressure. Settled better after the break. Booked for a strong challenge on Dani Alves.

Andrew Robertson 6

Much like the rest of his team-mates spent large parts of the opening 45 minutes on the back-foot. Made a great last ditch tackle to deny Mbappe with five minutes remaining. Booked.

Jordan Henderson 5

Offered little in the way of imagination for Liverpool and was overrun in the middle far too often. Looked distinctly average.

James Milner 6.5 (subbed on 77 mins)

As usual, a willing runner and tried to make an impact with a couple of crunching challenges on Neymar early on. Netted well-taken penalty on the stroke of half-time to give Liverpool hope.James Milner netted a penalty for Liverpool4

Georginio Wijnaldum 5 (subbed on 66 mins)

Largely anonymous and booked for a foul in the first-half. No real surprise when he was taken off, just a wonder it took until the 66th minute.

Sadio Mane – 6

Well marshalled by Thiago Silva, but continued to break forward when he could. Won the penalty from which Liverpool scored.Sadio Mane won the penalty for Liverpool4

Roberto Firmino 5.5 (subbed on 71 mins)

Created a great chance when his header down into the box on the half hour mark was just out of reach for those in a red shirt.

Mohamed Salah – 6

A couple of early shots, one into the side netting, it was a frustrating night for the Egyptian who simply couldnt stamp his mark on this match.

SUB: Naby Kieta – 5

Full of running and looked keen to impress, but could not make an impact.

SUB: Daniel Sturridge 5

Done what he could which was not very much as PSG were so dominant and was booked for shirt pull.

SUB: Xherdan Shaqiri 6

Whipped in a couple of dangerous corners and floated a clever free-kick. Can feel unlucky not to have started.
