Jurgen Klopp had to turn to Hoever after Dejan Lovren suffered an early injury, and despite the 2-1 loss the youngster impressed. But who is he? talkSPORT.com takes a closer look at Hoever below…

Career

Hoever joined Liverpool in the summer of 2018, having failed to sign a senior deal at Ajax.He made his first Liverpool appearance for the Under-18s against Newcastle on September 15, a match Liverpool won 4-1. Three days later he was introduced as a substitute in the UEFA Youth League in Liverpool’s 5-2 over Red Star Belgrade three days later. At international level, he has an impressive tally withthree goals in five appearances for the Netherlands Under-17s.

Playing style

A defender, Hoever has drawncomparisons with Virgil van Dijk for his confidence and composure on the ball. He canplay at centre-back or on the right side of defence, and he developed into a ball-playing defender in his four years in Ajax’s academy.Inhis Premier League 2 debut against Everton, coach Neil Critchley said: “Unbelievable. Sixteen years old? Just… wow, really!”

Interesting fact

Current Liverpool team-mate James Milner was making his first-team debut for Leeds aged 16 years and 309 days in 2002. Hoever was exactly 296 days old on the same date..Milner was making his first-team debut for Leeds aged 16 when Hoever was 10 months old3

What has been said

Jurgen Klopp: “If Joel (Matip) and Joe (Gomez) would have been fit all the time now then probably Ki-Jana would not have been in training. Now he was in and still is in, it’s just a joy to watch him.“He’s an incredible, confident, young fella and he’s really a good player on top. That we can see him day in, day out is really cool.”Barry Lewtas (Liverpool’s Under-18s coach):“I don’t want to sell him too much. He’s early in his journey here, he’ll take some time to adapt.Hoever tackles Diogo Jota in Liverpool’s FA Cup tie at Molineux3

“What I can say is that he’s trained really well and I know he’s going to fit in really well. We are all keeping our feet on the floor with him.“He’s still got a lot to do; sometimes you can ride the wave when you first get into teams, but he knows it’s a long process. He’s very mature, he’s a good boy and he knows he’s got lots to improve on.”

Dejan Lovren: Liverpool defender banned by UEFA for one Croatia match for social media comments made about Sergio Ramos and Spain
UEFA have banned Croatia defender Dejan Lovren for one international match over comments he made on social media about Spain.Lovren posted a video on Instagram bragging about elbowing Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos, and also made other insulting comments about the Spaniard, followingCroatia’s 3-2 Nations League defeat of La Roja in November.Lovren has been banned for one match by UEFA1
Lovren has been banned for one match by UEFA
Lovren went on to say via a live stream post: “Haha! 3-2! Go ahead and talk now buddy. Buddy! They are a bunch of p******”.Despite Ramos scoring from the penalty spot, Croatia secured a victory which set up a decisive match against England at Wembley in the race to reach the Nations League finals. And it was Gareth Southgate’s side who prevailed 2-1 to reach the last four of the competition, with the semi-finals and final to be played in Portugal this summer.UEFA said Lovren had fallen foul of a clause in its disciplinary rules which penalises anyone “whose conduct is insulting or otherwise violates the basic rules of decent conduct”.He will now miss Croatia’s Euro 2020 qualifier at home to Azerbaijan in March.

The pair had been feuding since the Champions League final, when Ramos earned the ire of Liverpool’s players and supporters for a clash with Mohamed Salah that forced the Egypt star to be taken off injured within the opening 25 minutes.Lovren has since questioned Ramos’ ability, claiming he is made to look better than he actually is by team-mate Raphael Varane, before suggesting he himself was one of the best defenders in the world.Ramos responded in measured fashion in the pre-match press conference. Im not going to answer Lovren or whoever wants to win three front pages or start the news bulletin,” he said.“Everyone wins things for himself on the pitch.Lovren is unlikely to be fit for Liverpool’s trip to Brighton on Saturday following a hamstring injury suffered in the FA Cup defeat to Wolves earlier this week.

Spurs were dead and buried at half-time in the second leg at the Johan Cryuff ArenA as they trailed 2-0 on the night and 3-0 on aggregate after goals from Matthijs De Ligt and Hakim Ziyech. However, a miraculous fightback, spearheaded by Moura, was completed deep into added time when the Brazilian slotted home a loose ball to seal an away goals success and spark amazing scenes in Amsterdam. It continues the remarkable progress for Spurs under boss Mauricio Pochettino, who has led the club further in Europe than any other.Jurgen Klopp’s men may have thought their name was on the trophy after the manner of their comeback against Barcelona, but Spurs will have other ideas and it promises to be a brilliant spectacle in Madrid on June 1.For Ajax, a brilliant run in this competition, where they beat Real Madrid and Juventus in previous rounds, ended in the most heartbreaking of ways and with their side set to be picked apart in the summer, they are unlikely to have a better chance of winning European football’s premier club competition than this.Pochettino celebrates with the Spurs players at the final whistlegetty3
Pochettino celebrates with the Spurs players at the final whistle
Spurs knew they did not have history on their side as only one of the 17 teams who lost the first leg of a European Cup semi-final at home had gone on to progress to the final.Pochettino said on the eve of the game that he would speak from the heart before kick-off, delivering a team talk to rouse his men.Whatever he said did not prevent them conceding a goal inside the opening five minutes.Ajax started the first leg brilliantly – and they were again at it from the off.Dusan Tadic brought a flying one-handed save out of Hugo Lloris and Spurs could not survive the resulting corner, with the unmarked De Ligt finding the corner of the net with a powerful header.Disappointing as the start was, it did not alter the equation for Spurs if they wanted to go through after 90 minutes. They still had to score two goals and they had chances as Son Heung-min hit the post, then brought a save out of Andre Onana.Christian Eriksen missed the best of the chances when he fired straight at the Ajax goalkeeper after a darting run by Moura.Any hopes Spurs had appeared to be extinguished in the 36th minute as Ajax doubled their lead on the night.Ajax’s Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt celebrates after scoring a goal during the UEFA Champions League semi-final second leg3

Some shoddy defending from Kieran Trippier allowed the hosts in down the left and Tadic cut back for Ziyech, who whipped a brilliant first-time finish into the top corner.Spurs had to go for it after the break and Pochettino brought on Fernando Llorente on at the interval – and they found hope.Dele Alli had already brought a fine stop out of Onana by the time they got on the scoresheet in the 55th minute.Danny Rose started it with a nutmeg and then set Alli free, with Moura running on to the ball to stroke home.Four minutes later it was 2-2 as Moura bagged his second, showing skill and composure to find the net after Llorente was denied from point-blank range. Sensing something special was possible Spurs, with Ajax rocked, looked a threat every time they went forward.Ziyech drifted an effort just wide and then crashed the ball against the post, before Jan Vertonghen hit the crossbar from six yards. That looked like being Spurs’ last chance until the dying seconds, when Moura ran on to Alli’s through-ball to send Spurs into ecstasy and, more importantly, to Madrid.

Christian Eriksen admitted Tottenham was lucky after Lucas Moura's second-half hat-trick against Ajax secured a place in the Champions League final against Liverpool. Mauricio Pochettino's men went into the second leg of their semi-final trailing 1-0 and first-half goals from Matthijs de Ligt and Hakim Ziyech left them 3-0 down on aggregate at

Marouane Fellaini: Five times his goals and aerial presence were vital to Manchester United success

Marouane Fellaini: Five times his goals and aerial presence were vital to Manchester United success
Marouane Fellaini has ended his six-year spell at Manchester United and joined Chinese Super League club Shandong Luneng.Signed by David Moyes for 27.5million on deadline day 2013, he was the first major arrival at following the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson. While the Belgian has plenty of detractors and his unorthodox style mean he is not thearchetypal player usually associated with United, he did manage to carve himself a niche as an impact substitute who was important for both Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho.talkSPORT.com looks at his most vital moments in a United shirt.

1. Manchester derby goal – 2015

Sergio Aguero had given Manchester City the lead after just eight minutes at Old Trafford before Ashley Young equalised. The latter then whipped in a dangerous cross to the back post and there lurking with intent, was Fellaini, who headed the ball powerfully beneath Joe Hart to give Van Gaals side the lead. It was one they would never surrender, as they eventually won 4-2.Fellaini heads home in the derby5

2. Helping United reach the FA Cup final 2016

With the likes of Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford in attack, United, surprisingly struggled to make a breakthrough against Everton, but thanks to their towering midfielder that changed. A late run into the area, followed by a clever finish from a Martial pass helped knock out his former club and send United into a record-equalling 19th FA Cup final, which they won by beating Crystal Palace. The Belgian scored against Everton in the FA Cup semi-final5

3. Another crucial cup goal – 2017

Fellaini again proved his worth with another important contribution in yet another cup semi-final, this time the EFL Cup. Coming off the bench in the 79th minute against Hull, he rose highest to powerfully head in a Matteo Darmian cross from the left and give United a 2-0 lead. That goal would prove to be invaluable, as Hull won the second leg 2-1, but lost 3-2 on aggregate. United then beat Southampton 3-2 in the final.A crucial goal against Hull in 20175

4. Europa League heroics 2017

Notice the pattern building here? If Fellaini scores in a cup semi-final, it means United progress and then win the tournament and that is exactly what happened here. Leading Celta Vigo 1-0 from the first encounter, Fellaini was picked out by a Rashford cross to head in on 17 minutes; as Jose Mourinhos 10 men nervously held on to book their place in Stockholm.Fellaini powered a vital header in against Celta Vigo5

5. Arsenal the victim of another headed goal and another United win 2018

While there was no title to contest, Man United v Arsenal carries a level of importance and expectancy from the fans and it was United who left with the bragging rights. With the scores still level in the second minute of stoppage time, Young curled in a cross and you know who got on the end to flick his header into the bottom corner? Yes, it was Fellaini who also ensured Arsene Wengers final visit to Old Trafford was a miserable one.Fellani celebrates his goal against Arsenal5
