Liverpool legend Dietmar Hamann tips West Ham to beat ‘exceptionally ordinary’ Manchester United as he claims Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to oversee a ‘serious rebuild’
Dietmar Hamann believes West Ham United can complete a Premier League double over an ‘exceptionally ordinary’ Manchester United side on Saturday evening. The game, which kicks off at 5.30pm, will be live for fans to listen to for free on talkSPORT from Old Trafford. The momentum has slowed somewhat for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United2
The momentum has slowed somewhat for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United
When Ole Gunnar Solskjaer succeeded Jose Mourinho in December, the Norwegian seemed to have turned the club’s fortunes around. However, defeat to the east Londoners at home will be United’s fifth in their previous six in all competitions – a run they have not endured since 1992.And Hamann, who represented rivals Liverpool on 283 occasions, believes Solskjaer’s honeymoon period is almost over.(Manchester) United look an exceptionally ordinary side at the moment,” the midfielder wrote in his Racing Post column.Hamman in action for Liverpool at Anfield2

“Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has improved results and lifted spirits after the Mourinho disaster, but this is still a team indeed a club in serious need of a rebuild.Recent wins have merely papered over the cracks because their performances havent been convincing. West Ham can put the brakes on them. The Hammers themselves are in something, with neither the threat of relegation nor the promise of European qualification able to inject much enthusiasm into Manuel Pellegrini’s beleaguered side.

Aberdeen 0-3 Celtic: Hoops breeze past nine-man Aberdeen to reach Scottish Cup final
Celtic kept their triple treble quest firmly on course as they swept nine-man Aberdeen aside 3-0 to book a place in next month’s Scottish Cup final. The Dons had been holding their own at Hampden until they lost Dom Ball to a second yellow card after a gruesome clash of heads with Ryan Christie.Celtic quickly made the most of their man advantage as James Forrest fired them ahead in first-half stoppage time.Celtic are still on course for a historic treble treble3
Celtic are still on course for a historic treble treble
Odsonne Edouard’s penalty and precise finish from substitute Tom Rogic rubbed salt into Pittodrie wounds as the Reds also had Lewis Ferguson sent off.Derek McInnes had been looking to lead Aberdeen into his fifth final as boss but both he and his assistant manager Tony Docherty finished the game watching from the stands as they also lost their discipline on the touchline in the face of a green and white onslaught.Hoops interim boss Neil Lennon will now look to boost his chances of landing the post permanently by wrapping up the club’s third straight domestic clean sweep when they take on final opponents Hearts on May 25.Lennon’s record at Hampden with Celtic was mixed after notching up six wins and five defeats from his previous 11 visits during his first stint in charge of the Hoops. But an upset never looked likely this time as Celtic started like they meant business. Defender Jozo Simunovic was the unlikely early threat but saw two decent chances evaporate as the Dons were forced to weather an early storm. It took Aberdeen 36 minutes to finally conjure a chance as Greg Stewart released Ball down the right, with his cross finding Sam Cosgrove who hooked wide with a volley. But within seconds the game took a major swing in Celtic’s favour as Ball got his marching orders. Already on a booking for a trip on Forrest, he was shown a second after his head cracked against the cheek of his former Pittodrie team-mate Christie in a sickening collision. While Ball trudged down the tunnel, there were worrying scenes as medics rushed to attend to the stricken Celtic player.Christie was placed in a neck brace before eventually being carried off on a stretcher after a five-minute hold-up.Hoops skipper Brown was jubilant after the match3

Rogic took his place while McInnes was forced to rejig his own plans as forward Stevie May made way for defender Michael Devlin.Aberdeen’s reaction to the restart was quicker and they almost snatched the lead as Ferguson headed wide. But it was Celtic who made the breakthrough 75 seconds into the six minutes of added time. Forrest collected a short pass on the right from Callum McGregor then gave Max Lowe the slip with the dip of a shoulder before smashing an unstoppable drive past Joe Lewis. The Dons keeper was forced to block with his feet as Forrest burst through again looking to put the game to bed before the delayed interval. But Celtic refused to relent as the action resumed. There was a let-off when Lowe cleared a McGregor shot off the Dons line but the clincher came from the penalty spot just after the hour mark.Lennon has done superbly since taking over Brendan Rodgers3

Devlin got caught ball-watching as Mikael Lustig threw a cross into the box. Unaware Jonny Hayes was lurking behind him, he instinctively threw out a hand, hauling down the Irishman to leave referee Craig Thomson with no choice to award the penalty, which Edouard converted for his 20th goal of the season.Aberdeen’s day went from bad to worse on 67 minutes as Ferguson was next to go after diving in to Rogic with a disgraceful two-footed lunge. The Australian took his revenge in the only way he knows how as he bounced up to fire home number three from the resulting free-kick.Lustig fired into the wall but the ball rebounded straight to Rogic who calmly took a touch before sending a sweet finish into the bottom corner.

Tottenham striker Harry Kane let off the hook for Chelsea headbutt ‘because he’s England captain’, claims Tony Cascarino
Tony Cascarino believes Harry Kane avoided retrospective action for his headbutt on Wednesday night because he is England captain. The Tottenham striker appeared to put his head towards Cesar Azpilicueta during the 2-0 defeat to Chelsea, but the Football Association was unable to act because the incident was seen by match officials at the time.Kane appeared to headbutt Azpilicueta2

Kane is subsequently free to play in the north London derby against Arsenal on Saturday after escaping any potential ban for violent conduct, which could have been up to three games. And talkSPORT host Cascarino, writing in his column for The Times, believes the FA have shown an element of bias towards the national team skipper.“The FA is protecting its own interests by showing leniency to Harry Kane,” Cascarino said. “If they can be a little lenient to Englands captain, then of course they are going to be. “I think the FA has realised over the years that it makes sense to avoid confrontation with their best players.“A three-game ban would have been excessive but it was ungentlemanly conduct and he did deserve a slap on the wrist. I think the maximum punishment could have been a one-match ban.“I certainly think if it had been another player without the same prestige or importance to England then they would have been made an example of by the FA.”Kane is captain of the England team2

Meanwhile, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino downplayed the incident and insisted it was just a mark of Kane’s competitive edge.I think hes so competitive on the pitch, boss Pochettino said of Kane. We were frustrated, we want to win, we show our character.Things that happen that we dont know because its impossible from outside the pitch to see what is going on inside. But that is football. Its not a thing we should be worried about. When you finish the game and shake hands, big hug and the game finishes and its finished.

In fact, according to Calciomercato, they will not leave Diawara leave for any less than 43.5m given that he remains under contract until 2021.Now it will be down to one of the interested parties to hit that figure if they want to land the holding midfielder when the transfer window opens in January.

Real Madrid have now suffered three successive home defeats and their title challenge is all-but over.Bale has been singled out for criticism by supporters in recent months, and on Saturday, he touched the ball just 20 times before he was replaced in the 61st minute. His agent, Jonathan Barnett, told Sky Sports News: “This generation of Real fans will be talking about Gareth’s goals for years to come. Frankly they should be ashamed of themselves.“Gareth deserves the greatest of respect. The way the Real fans have treated Gareth is nothing short of a disgrace. “In the six years he has been in Spain, he has won everything. He’s one of the best players in the world. Those fans should be kissing his feet.”Bale has scored 101 goals in 218 appearances since joining Real in 2013, collecting four Champions League winners medal in the process. The Spanish press have latched onto Bale as well, with Marca reporting that he didn’t even wait until the final whistle before leaving the ground on Saturday, amid questions surrounding his attitude.Bale was jeered off the pitch on Saturday2

But Barnett added: “Despite what the Spanish press are reporting, he’s happy, he speaks reasonable Spanish and there is no problem between him and the rest of the Real players. The people writing these things know nothing about him.“There has not been one single discussion about Gareth leaving Madrid. He isn’t going anywhere this summer.
